In order to facilitate the transformation of teaching,  learning and research in Higher Education Institutions, AKEPT has established AKEPT Competency & Enhancement Programme (ACEP) which consists of sixteen (16) Teaching and Learning Modules and five (5) Research Modules. The programme provides a career development roadmap for academic faculty members in teaching,  learning and research - from a novice to a leader and eventually a trainer. The development takes into account the key feature of the academia world that it embeds scholarship of teaching,  learning and research, a pertinent constituent of being an academic in a Higher Education Institution.

A fresh academic staff in Higher Education Institution has to be knowledgeable and competent in basic andragogy – the teaching and learning approaches for adult learners. Higher education teaching and learning competency is defined as proven ability to use professional knowledge and skills in the field of teaching and learning at the tertiary level. A novice has to undergo a basic training programme such as learning in higher education, understanding and managing learners, curriculum design for higher education, effective delivery, assessment and evaluation, scholarly projects in learning and teaching and professional classroom practices.

On the other side of the coin, ACEP will also focus on capacity building in module development, with an emphasis on creating a pool of leaders in research and innovation; writing and publication; and commercialisation and entrepreneurship. These  Research modules have been designed by local and international experts in the specific areas in order to develop leaders who will lead research projects, writing and publication, commercialisation, and entrepreneurship initiatives at institutional, national and international levels.

As the main objective of ACEP is to create a sustainable leadership talent pool of academics who are well-versed in the theories and practices of higher education teaching,  learning and research, the programme will be organised and coordinated by the Zone Head, appointed by AKEPT. The zoning system adopted by AKEPT will ensuring the continuous circle of ACEP programme throughout the nation in catering the career development roadmap for academic faculty members. Tentatively it will commence January 2017 till June 2017 at the respective zones.
