SD 101 ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP IN COMMUNITY UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT

OVERVIEW

This 2-day workshop aims to disseminate the concept of University-Community Engagement (UCE) through the delivery of three interactive modules that can help build better awareness, practical understanding and scholarly implementation of UCE activities/projects. The workshop provides an overview of UCE and the key concepts as well as related framework for the community engagement (CE) infusion efforts at various higher education institutions (HEI) in Malaysia in order to transform communities. This workshop also addresses the rationale, CE model framework, volunteerism and leadership development in CE to relate UCE activities/projects as an important part of education delivery. In addition to that, this module focuses on sharing the practical CE skills that guide the initiation, design, implementation, documentation and impact assessment for successful CE in different focus areas.

SD 103 AKEPT SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

OVERVIEW

The goals of the Leaders in Action programme are to offer an opportunity for participants to gain skills in communication and consensual decision-making process, acquire competencies in adaptive leadership; enhance critical and systems thinking abilities; and learn project planning, implementation, management and assessment through problem-based learning cases in the community. This programme also introduces the concept, core principles and historical context of sustainable development.  The programme also discusses how sustainable development is applied in spatial and sectorial dimensions, focusing on the concept of sustainable urban development and sustainable rural development.  The sectors under urban development include transportation, waste management and housing, whereas, under rural development includes forestry, fishing and agriculture.  The course also covers examples of global initiatives towards achieving sustainable development.
